Pen Computing

Introduction
Netmation is finding more and more interest in pen computing with our clients for very specific applications. With pen computing, you can use a pen-like stylus on a computer to write and annotate information similar to what you would do with a pen and paper. Within the special computer is contained a digitizer which captures and interprets the text you enter.

Pen computing solutions are ideal for applications which require:

  • Highly Portable Devices, no longer constrained by a keyboard
  • Intuitive Features for Users, resemble an environment familiar to the users
  • Improved Efficiency, excellent for accurate data collection and manipulation.
  • Flexibility, ideal for a wide variety of data entry.

Who will use pens? Below are examples of some scenarios which are ideal for a pen computing application. Netmation has experience in creating applications similar to these.

  • "Nurses and doctors can track and record patient histories as they make their rounds, using clipboards like computers and pens to look up and enter patient information over a wireless network from servers throughout the hospital."

  • "Insurance claims adjusters can assess automobile damages on site, looking up relevant cost information with the tap of the pen, then printing the estimate and writing a check to the repair shop at the end of the vist."

  • "Sales representatives can track inventory and the effect of promotional campaigns in retail stores, using a pen computer. At the end of the day, the information is transmitted through a phone line back to headquarters."
